"Nature is not a place to visit, it is home."
A secret enclave of natural serenity only 18 miles northwest of Austin. Part of a 640 acre Land Scrip Grant issued by the Spanish King to Texas on January 8, 1875. The area was first settled by the German family of James E. Maxey in the Pace Bend area later to become a State Park. Tough to get by covered wagon but sitting next to the widest deep channel of the Colorado River and panoramic views the now Balcones National Wildlife Preserve was irresistible.
As the automobile came along and Texas road systems, the ride out to this gorgeous area was noted as one of the top scenic destinations for enjoyment. Before long, folks realized this would be the perfect spot for a new second home vacation community. Hence, the Village of
Briarcliff was incorporated in the 1960’s
and the boom was on for development with large lots winding through the hills overlooking the Colorado River.
Briarcliff now has a full service marina , a fabulous cafe and lounge, a scattering of talented artists and live music events, and Willie Nelson’s 9 Hole Golf Course! Briarcliff is only minutes to 5 star eateries, 15 minutes to the Hill Country Galleria and Cinemas and 35 minutes into Austin. The community’s new families enjoy the highest scores in education through the Lake Travis Independent School District with full bus service and with a low tax base.
